Poppy Gee Travels to Amman, Jordan

Hello Amman, Jordan!

This is how my trip to Amman, Jordan goes.

I took flydubai flight to Amman, Jordan. Fare varies from the time of booking and the availability and the season. Mine was Eid time and there were many passengers. flydubai is a budget carrier in Dubai that is serving Amman almost 3-4 flights a day. Flight time is about 3 hours. There was WIFI on the flight that kept me online even at 36,000ft.

VISA Queries:

Having a UAE Residence Visa allowed me as a Filipino to get it upon arrival. Your residence visa must have a minimum of at least 3 months.

The Visa fee is 40 Jordanian Dinar. For currency exchange 1 JD is 5 AED (approximately). I would recommend to download XE application on your mobile phones for exchange rates.

Tip:

Buy a JORDAN PASS to be exempted from the visa fees.

The visa fee is 40 JOD and we managed to save from paying this by purchasing the Jordan Pass.

What is Jordan Pass?

The Jordan pass is the ultimate sightseeing package that has been especially tailor-made for visitors to the country. It gives pass holders the ability to make the most out of their trip visiting top sights and attractions whilst saving time, money and efforts.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The visa will be waived if you have a minimum stay of 4 days.

Transport:

Upon arrival, on our case, we had a transport pick up arrange from our hotel. Most of the hotels/hostels can help you arranged this. The cost must not exceed 25-30JD. Travel time is around 30-45 minutes. A bit far.

Budget Travel Option: There is an airport bus from the airport to the city as well.

Accomodation:

The starred hotel is a bit far from the centre. However, there are hotels and hostels as well where you can stay in the city centre.

I can recommend Jordan Tower Hotel/Hostels if you are wanting to save some.

Why I am recommending this place? It is because they had helped me a lot in terms of preparing this trip. They also have tour packages where you can avail.

Email them at jordantowerhotel@yahoo.com.

Trip Activities:

Upon arrival, after checking in, one best activity is to visit the Citadel Amman.

The Amman Citadel is a historical site at the center of downtown Amman, Jordan. Known in Arabic as Jabal al-Qal’a, the L-shaped hill is one of the seven jabals that originally made up Amman. – Wikipedia

The tour will just be approximately 1-2 hours. It depends of what you want to achieve.

After the Citadel, next stop was the Roman Amphitheater. I just had a picture in the spot because there were many people that time of visit.

Back to the hotel and get some rest for tomorrow’s activity.

The following day was a full day activity.

The exploration of Petra and experiencing the bouyancy of the Dead Sea. Around 5:30 AM we rented a driver/taxi to bring us to Petra. Paid 80 JOD for the whole trip and we shoulder the petrol (25 JOD) as well. Travel time takes about 3-4 hours. What I like about this road trip is you will see the amazing view of the Dead Sea, desert, and the mountains.

We had some stops and I took advantage to capture some picturesque views.

The road is smooth.

This is the area where they said it rained blazing coals and burning sulfur.

So many curve roads.

And you will feel pressure on your ears too.

Don’t forget the swallowing, or the valsava manuever, it helps adjusting the pressure.

When we reached Petra all we need to do is head to the entrance and present the Jordan Pass. It was a bit quick because all they need to do is just scan the bar code.

What to prepare for Petra?

Jordan Pass
Emirates ID or Passport (checkpoints)
Comfortable walking shoes
Sun shades
Shawl or scarf if you dont want to get burned
Bottles of water
Some snack bars
And a camera!!!

Below are my favorite shots in Petra.

TIP: Take the horse ride back to the entrance from the Treasury and just pay 3 JOD.

After the Petra tour, we had our lunch and I tried the Mansaf. Mansaf is the famous cuisine in Amman, Jordan and a must to try.

Now, we are heading back to the Dead Sea and will experiece the magic of this “Salt Lake in Asia”. The drive is about 2 hours from Petra.

The Dead Sea – is a salt lake whose banks are more than 400m below sea level, the lowest point on dry land. Its famously hypersaline water makes floating easy, and its mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments at area resorts. The surrounding desert offers many oases and historic sites.

Deep in the Jordan Valley and 55 km southeast of Amman, is the Dead Sea, one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the whole world. It is the lowest body of water on earth, the lowest point on earth, and the world’s richest source of natural salts, hiding wonderful treasures that accumulated throughout thousands of years. – Wikipedia

Things to Prepare before swimming:

  1. Towel
  2. Bottles of water (Because if the water hits your eyes, you need to wash it.)

There is a public beach and a private beach. On our end, we went to the public beach and paid 12 JOD but if you want to go to the private resort you will pay around 20-30 JOD.

Body Mud

This mud must be applied on your body and you will surely feel the effect after applying it and washing it off by the lake water.

OMG! This dead sea experience is truly magical. I must say this was the highlight of my trip. I could not imagine that I floated. This is a must to experience when in Jordan.

And these what I have done in one full day activity – Petra and the Dead Sea. Now, heading back to Amman.

Hope this helps. Feel free to share.
